OpenVista-Clinical Features Overview
The main interface of OpenVista is called "CIS"-that stands for 'Clinical Information System'. It is a window one sees after logging in to the system which provide access to patient details. The "CIS" provides two ways to start working....one by 'selecting patients'....Patient wise and the second way is by 'a list of Alerts'....Alert wise. Going either way takes to a window with all available Patient Information. It has tabs at the bottom to view the data in the following categories.
- Patient Summary
- Problem list
- Medications
- Orders
- Clinical Notes
- Consults/Procedures
- Discharge Summary
- Vital Signs
- Lab Results
- Chart Inquiries
Patient Summary
Patient Summary window contains the current or active details about all other tabs. It also shows important information about the important unattended messages, the current patient's allergies, behaviour in the form of Alerts, Postings and Flags. The details about a particular data can be viewed in an elaborated way selecting the tabs. Alerts and Postings can be accessed from any tab view.
Problem list
It shows all the complaints of the patients(both present and the past). The complaints are categorized into active and Inactive. Other details like onset, description, flags etc...about all the complaints are available to edit and update in a listed form here.
Medications
Medications are categorized into three types such as inpatient, outpatient and home medications. Drug prescription tool is available with features like drug search from a list, dose calculation but not the information about possible restrictions/interactions.
Orders
Orders are all the tasks needed to be done for the patient. They can be investigations, medications, patient education, Counselling etc... Order can be ordered or reviewed in this tab. All the necessary investigations are available in system/speciality wise manner.
Clinical Notes
Notes about patient encounters can be found here. Each encounter of the patient with any physician, physical therapy, nutritionist etc... is found documented here with all the details.
Consults/Procedures
In this view, we can see all the procedures ordered by physician and the corresponding requests to the radiologists, physical therapists, nutritionists, pharmacists etc...
Discharge Summary
This tab contains the discharge summary of the patient.
Vital Signs
This section with recordings of Vital Signs is presented in more detailed manner with several templates for patient groups according to their patient age group, patient compliants and speciality wards. Vitals included are BP, CVP, C/G, Height, Pain, Pulse, PulseOx, Respiration Rate, Temperature, Weight.
Lab Results
Lab results include reports from Microbiology, Anatomic Pathology and BloodBank. Reports from imaging can be directly attached to the patient summary. Lab results can also be viewed on a graph.
Chart Inquiries
The Charts view provide the overview of the patient reports and test results. This interface provides all the reports about the patient in one place.
Other features
Scheduling
Though Scheduling feature is present in OpenVista, it is command line and GUI(Graphic User Interface) is not yet available. This requires the user to be technically competent enough to handle command line tool.
Vitals
A seperate login is available into Vitals interface which is similar to Vitals tab in "CIS". I think this is a good way to facilitate nurses and PAs(physician Assistants) who usually maintain/enter Vitals data of patients to login seperately without fear of disturbing data in "CIS".
