WorldVista Installation Procedure

* Installation Guide [4]

There are two methods of installation of WorldVista EHR:

  1. Step-by-Step installation of a basic version of EHR
  2. Self installing versions of WorldVista EHR

Step-by-Step Installation

  • Decide on whether you will implement a Windows or Linux based system.
There are two server platform options, either Linux, which provides a full open source stack using Fidelity's GT.M database and one of the popular Linux distributions
Or the MS Windows server which will require obtaining a Cache database license and software from Intersystems Corporation.
  • Download and install a copy of the appropriate server software.
Make sure you download and read the Readme file first as it contains the password needed to un-zip the server software file.
  • Download and install the basic client software components.

WorldVista EHR Auto-Installer

Note: This Auto Installer can be applied to a Linux or Windows Operating System
  • In order to simplify the installation of WorldVistA EHR self installing versions are available for download.
  • These versions come prepackaged with both the database (GT.M) and the WorldVistA EHR server software and currently are only available for the Linux operating system and Intel x86 hardware.
  • A number of assumptions are made with respect to the directory structure and other variables, please use the "manual" installation versions if you want more control over the installation.

WorldVista-Clinical Features Overview

The main interface of WorldVista is called "CPRS"-from which derived the "CIS" of OpenVista. It is the short form for "Computerized Patient Record System". CPRS looks unattractive but robust inside. It is a window one sees after logging in to the system which provide access to patient details. The "CIS" provides two ways to start working....one by 'selecting patients'....Patient wise and the second way is by 'a list of Notifications'. Going either way takes to a window with all available Patient Information. It has tabs at the bottom to view the data in the following categories.

  1. Coversheet
  2. Problems
  3. Meds
  4. Orders
  5. Notes
  6. Consults
  7. Surgeries
  8. Discharge Summary
  9. Lab Results
  10. Reports

A seperate Vitals tabs is present in OpenVista in addition to the above.

Coversheet

Coversheet window contains the current or active details about all other tabs. It also shows important information about the important Clinical Reminders, the current patient's allergies, behavior in the form of Alerts, Postings and Flags. The details about a particular data can be viewed in an elaborated way selecting the tabs. Alerts and Postings can be accessed from any tab view.

Problems

It shows all the complaints of the patients(both present and the past). The complaints are categorized into active and Inactive. Other details like onset, description, flags etc...about all the complaints are available to edit and update in a listed form here.

Meds

Medications are categorized into three types such as inpatient, outpatient and non VA-medications.

Orders

Orders are all the tasks needed to be done for the patient. They can be investigations, medications, Diet, Vital Signs, Lab, etc... Order can be ordered or reviewed in this tab. All the necessary investigations are available in a list.

Notes

Clinical Notes about patient can be found here. Any encounter of the patient with any physician, physical therapy, Nurse, nutritionist etc... is found documented here with all the details. A suitable form can be selected from a list of many pre-configured forms.

Consults

In this view, we can see all the procedures ordered by the attending physician and requests to the concerned radiologists, physical therapists, Lab technicians, pharmacists etc...

Discharge Summary

This tab contains the discharge summary of the patient.

Labs

Lab results include reports from Microbiology, Anatomic Pathology and BloodBank. Reports from imaging can be directly attached to the patient summary. Lab results can also be viewed on a graph.

Reports

Reports Section provides all the information of the patient in reports and test results. This interface provides all the reports about the patient in one place.

Conclusion

Though WorldVista looks non-attractive, it is time tested and worked without flaws for VA-hospitals. It is difficult to configure WorldVista but new EHRs developed based on WorldVista like OpenVista are promising new developments.
